Zigzags. Dots. Lines. The Monte Zuma artwork is a new favourite black and white recycled tote bag. The original pattern is a drawing. Its medium is brush and gouache, pen and black ink, graphite on paper. The Fabric Pattern Monte Zuma was created by Joseph Hoffmann for the Wiener Werkstaette in 1903 © MAK Museum Vienna WWS 488

Josef Hoffmann is a founding father of the Wiener Werkstaette / Vienna Succession, a community of artisans, artists and designers founded in Vienna, 1897. One of the most influential Austrian architects, Hoffmann was a close friend of Gustav Klimt. The friends used the triangle in their artworks, reinforcing their interest in its exotic origins in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica.
